This research is conducted by the Lahore institute of research and development (LIRD) with national and international universities as collaborators.
This research project is funded by the national institute of mental health America (NIMH).
It’s a case control study in which we aim to find the difference in the genetics of mentally healthy and mentally unhealthy people to identify the possible causal mutations (deleterious changes) in DNA.
No it’s not a test and you won’t get any result back. In fact it’s an addition to efforts of developing a test.
No it’s not a government project.
Yes we have research ethics approval from National Bioethics committee (NBC). We have security clearance from the security agencies as well. The government of Pakistan is well aware of our research project.
It’s a notion of thanks for your time.
Since it’s a genetic study, we will have to isolate DNA from your blood, conduct experiments and then compare it with that of patients.
They have already conducted such projects abroad and the data on Pakistani population is lacking. Generating data on Pakistani population will benefit the patients here in future if in case some treatment is developed.
We will take small amount of blood sample required for the research. The quantity is very less that it will have no effect on your health or on your working routine.
We aim to enhance the research capacity of Pakistani institutions through training and collaborations.
