We believe in the strength of education and awareness in reducing the burden of care for families and caregivers of people who suffer from mental illness and intellectual disability.
LIRD wants to build bridges between Pakistani institutions and highly reputed universities in other countries through collaborative research. This will enhance research capacity in Pakistani institutions.

PURPOSE OF LAHORE INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF LAHORE INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
- Organize research in genetics of intellectual disability leveraging the advantages of high level of consanguinity in the population.
- Organize research in genetics of mental illnesses leveraging the advantages of structure of Pakistani population i.e. high level of consanguinity, relatively young population and size of the population.
- Conduct training in research methodology in genetics, statistics and meta-analysis.
- Sharing genetic findings with affected families and offer counselling to prevent further cases based on the genetic testing of unaffected relatives.
- Collaborate with different institutions in the country to provide supervision and support to young researchers
- Collaborate with different institutions in the country to help senior researchers foster research links with institutions in other countries.
- Establishing a system of governance and monitoring to maintain highest standard of ethics in research.
